An internationally renowned materials manufacturing business is currently recruiting an Electrical Controls Engineer to join its team based in Cambridge on a permanent basis. As their Electrical Controls Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting maintenance across the site to improve plant performance, whilst having the ability to lead CI projects and develop details control specifications.

Electrical Controls Engineer responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance effort across the site to improve plant performance and reliability.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects within the department.
  • Provide Electrical & Controls Engineering skills and knowledge to the Project Engineering team.
  • Support project, process and maintenance activities that will lead to improved safety and production efficiencies.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects from concept to successful implementation.
  • Develop concepts into detailed control specifications on a broad range of manufacturing equipment.
  • Creating and maintaining electrical, instrumentation and controls documentation.
  • Supporting site breakdowns as required to return the plant into production promptly.
  • Requirement to join the technical support call-out rota. Remain available to support the site, to ensure safety and minimise downtime.

Electrical Controls Engineer requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Previous experience acting as an Electrical Controls Engineer - with a strong background in instrumentation/controls.
  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing or process environment
  • Experience including design and specification of industrial chemical processes or similar.
  • Rockwell PLC knowledge required (Logix 5000 & 500, plus RS view) of Safety PLC systems and SIL.
  • Drive knowledge e.g., Allen Bradley, Parker/SDS, ABB
  • Practical application of problem solving and fault finding i.e.,4-20mA loops, Eurotherm controllers, process critical equipment
  • Experience with industry-standard risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, and FMEA. Trained in machine safety.
  • ATEX & commissioning experience would be advantageous. 2D CAD knowledge is advantageous. (AutoCAD, EPlan etc.)
