International Regulatory Development Associate

Lloyd’s are seeking to recruit an Associate within the International Regulatory Development Team. As part of the team, support the Lloyd’s Global Network with the development, enhancement & defence of Lloyd’s licences and trading rights globally, whilst achieving international compliance.

The Corporation does not control direct compliance of the Lloyd’s market with international regulations.  Rather, it sets principles for the market’s compliance controls and gives guidance on regulations.  As such, IRA does not control the Lloyd’s market’s international regulatory compliance but works collaboratively with the market to support Lloyd’s Principles.

The role of International Regulatory Development Associate is to work collaboratively with the Markets division, both with teams in London and our overseas offices, and any regional regulatory & compliance managers in the support of providing input and guidance.

Principal Accountabilities

  • As part of the team, identify and respond to regulatory developments, threats and opportunities to Lloyd’s

  • Support regulatory workstreams and projects. Identify possible options to resolve complex issues where precedent may not exist

  • Work with the Lloyd’s Global Network to support Lloyd’s relationships and credibility with international regulators, including supporting international representatives in their communications with regulators

  • Draft briefings, responses to consultations and communications to the market

  • Manage regular country calls including agendas and taking call notes

  • Maintain Lloyd’s regulatory compliance tools (e.g. Crystal) updated

  • Support Lloyd’s response to any non-compliance with international regulations, protecting Lloyd’s brand and licences, and mitigating the threat of financial loss or penalties

Skills required of the International Regulatory Development Associate

  • Ability to work as part of a professional team

  • Stakeholder management, influencing & negotiating skills

  • Ability to think strategically as well as focus on the detail

  • Effective communication and drafting skills (i.e. drafting and reviewing regulatory submissions, communications to the market, papers and briefings)

Knowledge required of the International Regulatory Development Associate

  • Knowledge of legal principles and their application in a commercial environment advantageous

  • Knowledge of international regulatory environment, regimes and requirements advantageous

  • Insurance market knowledge including Lloyd’s, London Market & International Markets advantageous

  • Knowledge of corporate governance principles and structures advantageous
