Key job outcomes/accountabilities

  • The accurate and prompt assessment of claims for Emergency Payments, Household Goods, Housing Benefit & Council Tax reduction.
  • The processing of reported changes in circumstances affecting those claims.
  • The maintenance and updating of claims in response to information received from internal and external sources.
  • Responding to non-urgent requests for information.
  • Carrying out complex assessments, such as adjudicating on fraud or appeal cases.
  • Reviewing and revising decisions made by self and others where required.
  • Providing written and face to face explanations of decisions and overpayments where requested.
  • Checking and providing feedback on the work of others.
  • Responding to urgent requests for updates or information about claims.
  • Supporting and coaching new entrants by sharing knowledge and experience, either on an ad-hoc basis, by mentoring individuals or floor-walking new cohorts.
  • Maximisation of opportunities for delivering outstanding service by effectively communicating with customers and stakeholders by telephone, email and by letter.
  • Contribution to service enhancement projects concerning work appropriate to this grade point.

What are we looking for

  • So far as is reasonably practicable, the post holder must ensure that safe working practices are adopted by employees and in premises/work areas for which the post holder is responsible to maintain a safe working environment for employees and service users. These are defined in the Corporate Health, Safety and Welfare Policy, departmental policies and codes of practice.
  • Work in compliance with the Codes of Conduct, Regulations and policies of the City Council.
  • To model and promote good equalities practice and value diversity across the service.
  • Ensure that output and quality of work is of a high standard and complies with current legislation / standards.
  • Ensure that all mandatory training is undertaken as required. For example - Health and Safety, Equalities, Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Adults. Please note - this is not a comprehensive list.
