Our client is a leading provider of comprehensive insurance solutions, committed to delivering exceptional service to their clients.

They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Accounting Manager to join their finance team in Leeds.

The successful candidate will manage all aspects of indirect tax, while providing strategic insights to minimize tax liabilities and support business growth.

The role will suit either a top 10 qualified tax professional, or an in house tax adviser with good knowledge of the insurance / financial services sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • VAT Account Reconciliation: Lead the monthly review of VAT account reconciliations, ensuring any differences are identified and addressed.
  • Quarterly VAT Returns: Oversee the quarterly VAT returns for legal entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with VAT regulations. Advise on the treatment of new or unusual transactions.
  • Group VAT Return Filing: Consolidate and file the VAT group's quarterly return to HMRC, ensuring timely submission and payment.
  • Annual Calculations: Complete annual calculations for Partial Exemption Special Method and Capital Goods Scheme.
  • Error Corrections: Prepare Error Correction Notifications (ECNs) for HMRC, evaluate supporting evidence, and coordinate necessary corrections.
  • Property VAT Management: Maintain the property Option to Tax register, prepare new notifications, and review property income.
  • Supplier and Invoicing Review: Ensure proper setup and review of suppliers, third-party invoicing, and intra-group services. Advise on best practices.
  • Motability VAT Management: Review and correct Motability VAT postings and statements, suggesting improvements as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Coordinate ongoing improvements in VAT reporting and audit processes.
  • Risk Management: Record tax and non-tax risks, and support resolution efforts with the Head of Indirect Tax.


Ideal Candidate

  • Post qualification experience in an accounting or tax role.
  • Financial services experience.
  • Solid technical grounding in UK tax accounting with an awareness of indirect taxes in the financial sector.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 + Excellent benefits

  • Hybrid working - 2 days required in the office per week
